To Les
For my grandfather, Lesley Foy. Even dyed in the wool atheists need to have Anniversaries (even if they’re late or on the wrong date). As a child I mistook your often quiet, contemplative nature for something terrifying. I think it’s only now that I understand your calm intelligence and the true achievement of becoming a self educated intellectual, a hard labourer and a parent at the same time, all without compromising yourself in any of your roles. I now understand the fact that, instead of being “friendly”,you refused to talk down to any of your grandchildren. I only wish you had’ve been around for longer. I normally don’t post things like this, but I don’t believe in a god and neither did you. So I believe you need to be honoured in this life instead of needing praise for the next.
